BE CREATIVE

One of the best ways to learn how to be more confident is to be creative. Start a new project or an endeavor that encourages creativity. It can be something simple, like learning how to sew, or something really big, like painting a mural or writing a book. When you complete it successfully, it will fill you with confidence. You’ll feel accomplished, because you started something really big and finished it.

2. FOCUS ON YOUR ATTRIBUTES

Everyone has strengths, talents, and attributes. You might be a gifted poet, a great listener, or really good at organization. No matter how big or small, your strengths are important. Focusing on those rather than what you see as your faults makes a huge difference. If you cook delicious food, take beautiful pictures, have a great knowledge of history, or love animals, focus on that. Write down all the things you do well – and as you see that list grow, you’ll feel so much better about yourself.

3. SPEND TIME WITH GOOD PEOPLE

Another way to teach yourself how to be more confident is to spend time around good people, the people who love you for you. Hang out with your family members. Go out with your friends. These people love you, they see all the good in you, and I bet it shows. As you spend more time with you, it will become easier to see yourself through their eyes.

4. BE A RISK TAKER

Taking risks can be hard – it’s kind of scary. However, being willing to do something risky can make you feel empowered. I don’t mean indulging in dangerous behavior or anything. However, by doing something you’ve always wanted to do but haven’t had the courage to try, you can really inspire yourself – and others. Don’t let your fears hold you in one place. Overcome them and your confidence will grow.

5. DO UNTO OTHERS

One of the best ways to learn how to be more confident is to do nice things for other people. Volunteering your time will enrich your life. You can volunteer at a soup kitchen, hospital, or homeless shelter, organize a charitable or philanthropic event, or even help people you know who may be down on your luck in some way. Doing good for others will help you see what a great person you are.

6. SMILE MORE

I’m sure you’ve heard that it takes way more muscles to frown than to smile, right? It’s also true that when you smile, it boosts your confidence. To quote another cliché, smile and the whole world smiles back at you. When you exude good feelings, people respond to that. Knowing that you can inspire good in others is an even better confidence boost.

7. BE ACTIVE

Exercise can actually help you learn how to be more confident, as well. Simply having more energy does wonders. Even if you just start taking walks around the block or walking your dog in the park, it will help.

Learning how to be more confident does take time, and it can be a hard journey. Confidence isn’t something you can gain or build overnight. You have to surround yourself with positive people and actions in order to teach yourself how to be more confident. The end results are so worth it, though. You’ll feel so much better about yourself.

spotland:

Beautifully executed animations by Texas photographer Ignacio Torres from his seriesStellar. Via his website:

This project began from the theory that humans are made of cosmic matter as a result of a stars death. I created imagery that showcased this cosmic birth through the use of dust and reflective confetti to create galaxies. The models organic bodily expressions as they are frozen in time between the particles suggest their celestial creation. In addition, space and time is heightened by the use of three-dimensional animated gifs. Their movement serves as a visual metaphor to the spatial link we share with stars as well as their separateness through time.

Klara Harden wander off to Iceland to spend 25 days hiking all by herself throughout the lonely and stunning landscapes of the Icelandic highlands.

The young photographer and filmmaker from Austria had financed her trip through crowdfunding. With over 60.000 hits in just 7 days it’s obvious that a lot of people are impressed with what she did. In the documentery, she shows the gorgeous landscapes she came across and shares some of her thoughts on being alone for so long, her fears of being in the wrong place and her joy of seeing things she never thought she’d see.

Here is the story.

“On 23 March 1994, the medical examiner viewed the body of Ronald Opus and concluded that he died from a shotgun wound of the head. The decedent had jumped from the top of a ten- story building intending to commit suicide (he left a note indicating his despondency). As he fell past the ninth floor, his life was interrupted by a shotgun blast through a window, which killed him instantly. Neither the shooter nor the decedent was aware that a safety net had been erected at the eighth floor level to protect some window washers and that Opus would not have been able to complete his suicide anyway because of this.” »”Ordinarily,” Dr. Mills continued, “a person who sets out to commit suicide ultimately succeeds, even though the mechanism might not be what he intended. That Opus was shot on the way to certain death nine stories below probably would not have changed his mode of death from suicide to homicide. But the fact that his suicidal intent would not have been successful caused the medical examiner to feel that he had homicide on his hands. “The room on the ninth floor whence the shotgun blast emanated was occupied by an elderly man and his wife. They were arguing and he was threatening her with the shotgun. He was so upset that, when he pulled the trigger, he completely missed his wife and the pellets went through the a window striking Opus.

“When one intends to kill subject A but kills subject B in the attempt, one is guilty of the murder of subject B. When confronted with this charge, the old man and his wife were both adamant that neither knew that the shotgun was loaded. The old man said it was his long-standing habit to threaten his wife with the unloaded shotgun. He had no intention to murder her - therefore, the killing of Opus appeared to be an accident. That is, the gun had been accidentally loaded.

“The continuing investigation turned up a witness who saw the old couple’s son loading the shotgun approximately six weeks prior to the fatal incident. It transpired that the old lady had cut off her son’s financial support and the son, knowing the propensity of his father to use the shotgun threateningly, loaded the gun with the expectation that his father would shoot his mother. The case now becomes one of murder on the part of the son for the death of Ronald Opus.

There was an exquisite twist. “Further investigation revealed that the son was actually Ronald Opus. He had become increasingly despondent over the failure of his attempt to engineer his mother’s murder. This led him to jump off the ten-story building on March 23, only to be killed by a shotgun blast through a ninth story window.

“The medical examiner closed the case as a suicide.”

heckyesisay:

The Love Competition
Have you ever tried to love...

chriskingwong:

The Love Competition

Have you ever tried to love someone as hard as you could for five minutes? It sounds like a strange thing to attempt, but that’s exactly what the people in a study at the Stanford Center for Cognitive and Neurobiological Imaging were asked to do while they sat in an fMRI machine.

This isn’t exactly medicine, but shows that our ability to understand the human body has come a long way. And that science doesn’t always have to be hard facts. This is pure beauty.
